Public relations specialists speak to the public on behalf of a company, organization, or the government. A public relations specialists spreads their employer's message to the public. A PR specialists has to create and keep an intended image for the client by keeping close relationships with journalists, bloggers, and other company representatives.

A PR rep may be called a social media specialists because people are social media specialists may work on their employer's social media image. While there could be a PR specialist that works on the crisis management team that handles the results of a scandal.

*Students who want to enter the public relations field can major English, economics, journalism, international relations, linguistics, politics, physiology, and sociology since NYU does not offer a major in public relations, there are many universities that do not. Students who major in these fields can gain the sufficient skills needed to become a public relations specialists. A student who majors in these fields can learn how to communicate effectively, develop and master their writing skills as well as being able to develop their 'people' skills.
*Due to the fact that NYU is in a large urban city many students are presented with the opportunity to gain experience through internships and work. Being in a large city can be an advantage to any student at NYU because a student is given the opportunity to network, much like they would do in real life as a public relations specialists.
UC BERKELY
*The University of California, Berkeley is a public university located in northern California with a total undergraduate enrollment of about 30,000 students. In state tuition and fees are $13,844 while out of state tuition fees are $25,064. At Berkeley 47.4 percent of students receive some type of need based financial aid and the average need-based scholarship or grant award is $23,099. UC Berkeley is more selective than NYU with an acceptance rate of 17.7%.

These skills allow students at Berkeley who wish become a special relations specialists to hone their public speaking and communications skills.

Students are also able to gain internships at Google, Apple, Yahoo, and other social media companies because Berkeley is near the heart of the Silicon Valley. San Francisco is not far from Berkeley so students can also take advantage of the urban setting to network as well.

There can be quicker upward mobility: This isn't the type of job that a person will stay in for decades and decades, someone can start off in one position and within a year already be moving towards another. Being a public relations specialists, like many other jobs, a new employee usually will start doing grunt works such as answering calls, help other public relations specialists with the planning of events, and making sure that any web based work is being done. As a person spends more time and experience in this field, he or she will usually get promoted in their specialized field.
2.Networking: Due to the fact a public relations specialists will be working with so many people, there is more networking involved than your average job. A public relations specialists will be meeting different people from the media and press as well as representatives from other firms that it comes easier to network because of all the new people that a PR specialist will meet. Being a public relations specialist required that a person networks in behalf of the company or firm they are working for, but as someone networks on behalf of the company that is being represented a person can also create a lot of new contacts. someone
3. Travel is involved: Depending on the employer some PR specialists will travel to other cities or other cites for their job because it is required of them. Sometimes a employer will require its employee to travel for a few days to a nearby city or state and other times an employer will request that its employee travel for a longer period of time. Sometimes the travel for the job will not be super glamorous, every time a person travels for the job a person will not be going places such as Paris, London, and Hong Kong. A person will most likely travel to San Fransisco, Los Vegas, or Reno from Los Angeles. Travel will not be super exciting and glamorous but at least this job covers travel costs. job

There are multiple areas in which you can concentrate you career in: Being a PR specialists doesn't mean that someone is stuck in one type of job, being a PR specialist means that a person has the freedom to to choose which they would specialize in. For example, there are some PR specialists that focus on the social media aspect of the job, many companies now have a Facebook or Twitter feed so the job of of a public relations specialists who only specializes in social media will have to make sure that all the social media pages are up to date and running smoothly.
5.You don't have to be signed on a contract to have a job: Although signing on to a contract with a company or organization does guarantee a greater amount of job security it does not mean a person cannot work freelance. Working freelance can be challenging at times, but this type of career does provide the option of working freelance. By working freelance a person can work in local campaigns, new businesses, or for a company event.
6. Not required to work full time: It isn't necessary for someone in this field to work full time to make a living, although it can be recommended in order to have more job security. This career can allow for a person to work full time if their contracts permits it, which can always be negotiated. Working part time also means that a person might avoid the more chaotic aspects of the job, it also means that a person working part time may be able to work from home, if the firm or company that a person is representing permits it. Which brings us to the last benefit on the list.

Sometimes you can work from home: Many people would like to work from home for a variety of reasons, such as becoming new parents, health issues, or personal issues that are preventing a person from working full time. Working from home as a public relations specialists is not a guaranteed aspect of the job.Depending where a person specializes and how much work they are required to work they can work from home. If all of a person's work can be done online or through the phone chances are that a person might have a higher probability that the employer may allow the employee to work from home.

Conclusions
After all the research done about this career I can conclude that this job interests me in ways that other careers that have interested don't me. One aspect that I like about this job is that once I start this career and work as a public relations specialist are that I don't have to stay in this career for decades and have that be my only job. I believe that this career can also give me skills that other jobs might not give me. What I particularly like about this career is that there are many areas in which I can specialize. I can either concentrate my career in the social media aspect of it, I can work behind the scenes and set up meetings and appointments for clients, or I can specialize in press relations.
There are a lot of people skills needed for this job, I'm a awkward person and I believe that I need to improve my people and communication skills. This career will force me to interact with people, even if I don't meet with people face to face I will have to interact with people on the phone or through email. This job focuses on communicating well with others, I know that there times when I will be placed out of my comfort zone and I won't like it for a while but then I know I'll appreciate the experience later on.
Overall, I've come to realize that this careers can be a good start for me because I would be able to network and make connections much easier compared to other careers where networking might not be as easy or built in with the job. My social skills can survive working in this job.
